Genesis 4-8

January 2

Genesis 4-8

Once sin entered the world, it spread like wildfire. Adam and Eve’s son, Cain, killed his younger brother, Abel. There was trouble in the land and there was no hope for improvement. "The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain." (Genesis 6:6, NIV)

God decided that he was going to wipe everything out. It was like He was going to take an eraser and erase His creation. What had started out being very good was now very bad. But one man found favor with God. There was a man named Noah who was righteous and blameless in the middle of a world that was filled with evil. Because of Noah, God decided to wipe everything out, but to save a remnant.

God instructed Noah to build an ark and to fill it with animals of all the species on the earth along with his family. God started over again, but he used Noah to start anew.

I cannot imagine living in Noah’s day; the evil, the temptations, the trials, the ridicule. But Noah remained blameless and walked with God. We live in trying times. The world is trying to convince us that we can live just fine without God. There are temptations, trials, and ridicule. There is evil in our midst.

If God looked down on us today, would you find favor in God’s eyes? Would you be described as someone who was righteous, blameless among the people, and that you walk with God? God is still looking for people who are willing to go against the flow of the culture in order to stand strong in His Word.

" Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing." (Philippians 2:12-16, NIV)
