Joshua 1-4
The instructions to Joshua from 1:6-9 are great
words for all of us to heed. God told Joshua that it was time for him to step
up and take charge of the Israelites. God wanted to use Joshua to lead His
people. God promised to defeat their enemies, but He needed someone who would
listen to Him and would encourage the people to follow.
Fear is one of our greatest enemies. Fear stops us
from accomplishing the goals God sets out for us. We fear failure, we fear
ridicule, we fear those who oppose us, we have a lot of fears. God told Joshua;
to focus on the Word of God. If Joshua will make God’s word the center of his
life, God will prosper him and make him successful. What more can we ask for?
God told Joshua; "Have I not
commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be
discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”"
(Joshua 1:9, NIV) Is God calling you to a new life. Is God calling you to step
out and get real about your relationship with him? You have nothing to fear,
God is with you wherever you go.
God sent Joshua and the Israelites across the
Jordan. Fear struck the people of Jericho because they had heard about what God
had done to the other people who had opposed the Israelites. Joshua instructed
to priests to step into the Jordan River while it was at flood stage. Fear
could have stopped them, but they trusted God. Do not be terrified or
discouraged.
What is God asking you to step out and step into?
Maybe He has a ministry He wants you to begin or to be involved. Perhaps you
know God wants you to make a change of employment or even of career. If God is
leading you; do not be terrified or discouraged. As the Israelites stayed
behind the ark, follow God’s lead. Do not get impatient and get ahead of Him,
but follow Him with courage.
Move forward into the land God has promised you. Be
strong and courageous.
