Deuteronomy 32-34

March 5

Deuteronomy 32-34

"like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions." (Deuteronomy 32:11, NIV)

Moses compares God’s dealings with Israel to a mother eagle teaching her young to fly. The mother would stir the nest up in the crags of the mountain and push her young out. She would allow them to fall maybe ninety feet or so and would swoop down under them and with her wings spread, the young would land on her back. She would soar back to the top of the mountain and repeat the process until the young learned to fly.

As God led the Israelites out of Egypt He loved them, He disciplined them, He protected them, He taught them how to live as the people of God. Many times, they fell. Many times they failed. God continued to swoop under them and lift them back up. "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:31, NIV)

Sometimes we wonder; “where is God in all this?” Sometimes we feel like we are free falling and fear we will be smashed at the bottom of the valley. But if we will stop panicking and will begin to flap our wing, if we will allow God to teach us during those challenging times, we will learn to fly and will soar on wings like eagles.
God does not leave us. God sometimes allows us to fall in order to teach us. But He is our safety net, He will swoop under us and catch us. Everything may not work out like we want, but we can be assured that God is still in control. He will watch over us. He will carry us.
When you feel like you are falling, remember God is teaching you to soar.
