Deuteronomy 18-21

March 1

Deuteronomy 18-21

As we live our lives walking with our Lord, we are in a battle. The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus; "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12, NIV) We struggle when we try to make changes in our lives to live the lives God has called us to live. We have struggles at home and at work. We may face ridicule, harassment, or even persecution for our faith.

We may struggle with addictions, family issues, habits, or other issues that bid for our time, talents and treasures. The media and our culture try to pull us down a path of consumerism, a desire for more material goods and more power. As we attempt to walk with God, we are in a battle. Each of us may face a different battle, but it is for the same ground; our souls. God has a plan for us and He wants to help us accomplish His plan.

God had a plan for the Israelites. When they looked at the other nations, the nations that occupied the land God had promised to give them. They were afraid. They did not think they were powerful enough to win the battle. They looked at the size of the enemy instead of the size of their God. So God reminded them;  Hear, O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”" (Deuteronomy 20:3-4, NIV)

Jesus won the ultimate victory for us when He rose from the grave in victory over sin and death. He gives us that victory and victory over the forces that attempt to separate us from Him. God fights for us. Do not be afraid, claim the victory won for you.
